We are excited to introduce you to Ashley Sherwood! As The Prewitt Group’s receptionist, Ashley is the smile welcoming you to our office and the voice greeting you on the telephone. She keeps our office running smoothly by ensuring incoming calls and correspondence are routed to the appropriate agent in addition to supporting our accounts payable team. To learn more about Ashley, check out this Q&A:

Q: What’s your favorite part of working for The Prewitt Group?

A: Being a member of the accounting department is the most enjoyable aspect of my position. We are a close-knit group that strives to support one another. Plus, we have a good deal of fun along the way.

Q: What brought you to Birmingham?

A: I am originally from Slocomb, Alabama. I moved to Birmingham from São Paulo, Brazil to be closer to family and expose my son to the English language for a portion of his childhood.

Q: Who’s your biggest role model?

A: Ruth Bader Ginsberg is definitely my biggest role model.

Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

A: Be the voice for the voiceless.

Q: What are three words that describe you?

A: Resolute. Meticulous. Tenderhearted.

Q: What’s something most people would be surprised to learn about you?

A: I have fished my whole life. I spent most of my childhood either deep sea fishing a hundred miles offshore, preparing to go fishing or traveling somewhere to go fishing. There is nothing more centering than standing on the bow of a boat as you look out at the place where sky meets sea, the place where you see nothing, yet see everything.

Q: Favorite quote?

A: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing.” –attributed to Edmund Burke

Q: Favorite travel spot/vacation?

A: I love to visit the seaside towns along the coast of Brazil, specifically Ilhabela where my husband and I spent our honeymoon.

Q: Movie buff, bookworm or Netflix binger? What are you currently reading or watching?

A: I am a bookworm all the way. I am currently reading Pure Grit by Mary Cronk Farrell. It is a memoir on how a group of non-combat trained WWII nurses survived as prisoners of war in the Pacific.

Q: Favorite spot to hang out in Birmingham?

A: We have a 2-year-old son who loves to be outdoors, so we spend a lot of time at Aldridge Gardens. Bluff Park Ice Cream Shoppe is also a favorite.

Q: Hobbies?

A: I love cuddling with my little boy and reading him stories. I can also be completely absorbed into research on an enlightening topic for hours. Travel, by necessity as we are an international family, is always something I am excited about as well.

Q: Anything you want to add about family, pets or personal life?

A: I have a wonderful husband and a cherished little boy. I am doing my best to savor every moment of this stage of my life. I am so blessed and deeply thankful.
