The Prewitt Group Welcomes Slade Smith as Director of Employee Benefits

As The Prewitt Group continues to grow and evolve to meet the changing needs of our clients, we are pleased to welcome Slade Smith as Director of Employee Benefits. Slade’s addition represents an important investment in the continued growth of our Employee Benefits practice and strengthens our ability to provide businesses with a more comprehensive, strategic approach to caring for their employees. Just as we do across every area of risk management, our goal is to pair deep expertise with personal service—helping clients navigate complex decisions with an experienced advisor who understands their business, their people, and their priorities.

Slade believes health benefits are about much more than numbers on a spreadsheet. The decisions employers make have a direct impact on their employees, their families and their ability to access the care they need. In his new role, Slade will work closely with clients on plan design, compliance, technology and carrier management, helping employers develop thoughtful, competitive benefits programs that serve their employees while supporting the long-term goals of their business.

His approach is a natural fit for The Prewitt Group, where relationships have always come first. As a family-owned risk management firm, we believe our role extends beyond placing coverage. We serve as an advisor and advocate for our clients, taking the time to understand their needs, identify opportunities and challenges, and develop customized solutions designed specifically for them. Slade brings that same personal, consultative mindset to Employee Benefits, further enhancing the level of service and expertise we can provide to employers and their teams.

Before entering the employee benefits industry, Slade played baseball at Auburn University and later played professionally in the Detroit Tigers organization. His time in baseball shaped his competitive drive and taught him the value of preparation, trust, and teamwork, qualities that continue to influence how he works with clients and colleagues today.

Slade later spent several years in medical device sales with Stryker and NuVasive. That experience gave him an up-close perspective on the healthcare system and a greater appreciation for the difference good coverage and thoughtful plan design can make for individuals and families. Today, he brings that perspective to employers as they navigate an increasingly complex benefits landscape and look for solutions that balance the needs of their people with the realities of running a business.

Born in Montgomery and raised in Fort Payne, Slade has called Birmingham home since 2012. He and his wife, Anne Margaret, have four children and enjoy traveling together as a family. He also coaches youth baseball, continuing his connection to a sport that has played an important role throughout his life.

Slade also serves on the Board of Directors for The WellHouse, a nonprofit that supports female survivors of human trafficking. His work with the organization reflects the importance he places on faith, family, service and giving back to his community.

For more than 50 years, The Prewitt Group has grown by staying true to the values on which our company was founded: trust, integrity, personal service and a commitment to doing what is right for our clients. As we look toward the future, we remain focused on thoughtfully expanding our capabilities while preserving the relationship-driven approach that makes The Prewitt Group unique. Slade’s leadership will be an important part of that continued growth, and we are excited about what his experience and perspective will bring to our Employee Benefits clients, our team, and the businesses we serve.
