Becky Glass’ Visit to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

Last week, J.R. Prewitt’s Personal Lines Manager Becky Glass had the opportunity to visit the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in Charlottesville, Virginia as a guest of Chubb Insurance. The IIHS is a non-profit organization that was founded and is funded by insurance companies to compile data and information which helps to increase the safety of motor vehicles and decrease the occurrence of motor vehicle accidents. The IIHS tests vehicles through various methods, including crash tests, and Becky was able to witness one of these crash tests in person.

IIHS is also well-known for its ratings programs which evaluate the safety of new vehicles in crashes and other performance factors. For example, when you hear of a certain vehicle model as testing “safest on the market”, that distinction likely comes from the IIHS Top Safety Picks awards. The research done by IIHS has helped make vehicles and roadways safer since its inception in 1959, and continues to this day to be wholly funded and supported by insurance companies. Their sole mission is to reduce the loss of lives and decrease the injuries and property damage that result from motor vehicle crashes.

Becky was interested to learn about Chubb Insurance’s auto policy and the standards they have in place for property damage claims. When an insured’s vehicle is damaged in an accident, they only utilize approved service providers for the repairs and require factory OEM parts to be used. This ensures that if a Chubb-insured vehicle has been wrecked and repaired, it is just as safe as the day it was purchased brand new.   A big thanks to Chubb for sponsoring Becky’s visit to the IIHS and Mason Green of Chubb for showing her around!
